Becoming contaminated by dirt other foreign matter, for easier and proper assembly, place disassembled parts in order parts rack, use nylon cloths or paper towels to clean the parts; common shop rags can leave lint that might, before inspection or reassembly, carefully clean all parts with general purpose, non-flammable.
Before assembly, apply a coat of recommended power steering fluid* hydraulic parts, jelly may be applied to O-rings and seals, replace all gaskets, seals and O-rings, *: Genuine NISSAN PSF II or equivalent.
The actual shape of Kent-Moore tools may differ from those of special service tools illustrated here, removing ball joint swivel joint, improper installation or looseness steering column, improper installation or looseness tilt lock lever.
NOISE, VIBRATION, AND HARSHNESS (NVH) TROUBLESHOOTING, "Checking Drive Belts", MA-24, "Checking Drive Belts", place wheels in straight ahead position check steering, if steering wheel play is not within specification, check the following for loose worn components.
Checking Neutral Position Steering Wheel, make sure that wheel alignment is correct, verify that the steering gear is centered before removing, check that the steering wheel is in the neutral position when driving straight ahead.
If the neutral position still not correct, move tie-rods, in opposite direction, the same amount on both left right sides, this will compensate for error neutral position, rotate steering wheel fully right, then left; measure turning.
Refer to "FRONT WHEEL TURNING ANGLE", refer to "Checking Drive Belts" (KA24DE) or MA-24, "Checking Drive Belts" (VG33E VG33ER), check fluid level with engine off, check fluid level referring to the scale reservoir tank.
Use HOT” range for fluid temperatures of 50 80°C (122, use COLD” range for fluid temperatures of 0 30°C (32, recommended fluid is Genuine NISSAN PSF II or equivalent, check lines for improper attachment, leaks, cracks, damage, chafing.
Do not hold steering wheel at lock position more than 15, do not overtighten connector as this can damage O-ring, washer connector, raise front end of vehicle until wheels are clear ground.
